Alban Maginess in Profile
Married with eight children and one grand-child, Alban is a dedicated family man.
North Belfast through and through, Alban has represented the area for over two decades in Belfast City Council and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
As a barrister, Alban has specific expertise in Human Rights Law. He is SDLP Spokesperson on Justice.
Alban made history by becoming the first nationalist Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1997.
He is currently a member of the Assembly's Social Development Committee, where he has vigorously demonstrated his commitment to equality, justice and fair play.
Alban is passionately pro-European and regularly represents the SDLP at meetings of the Party of European Socialists. He has served on Europe's Committee of the Regions and in the National Forum on Europe.
