Maginness:Europe can bring about new economic recovery plan
Monday 25 May 2009
SDLP European Election candidate Alban Maginness has said the other parties and their European groupings represent 'No we can't government' as we attempt to bring about economic recovery.
Mr Maginness said the SDLP can use their influence as members of the Party of European Socialists to deliver real economic change.
He said: "The SDLP stand for making real investments in growth in order to re-launch the economy.
"In the Assembly we have put forward imaginative proposals through our New Priorities in Difficult Times document to kick start the economy and work towards recovery.
"Other parties represent 'no we can't government' both at home and in Europe.
"In the European Parliament our rivals belong to groups who are preventing progressive politics which can tackle unemployment in an effective way.
"This recession is not just a statistic or a graph.
It means millions of people without work, without enough income, and without a secure future.
"The North and Europe urgently needs a new stronger, bolder recovery plan.
"The SDLP and our sister parties in the Party of European Socialists will use our influence in the European Parliament to stimulate a new recovery effort."
