Promoting the SDLP's online communication tools Mr Maginness said the party would be making every effort to reach out to voters ahead of the poll on June 4.

He said: "Political election campaigning has been revolutionized by the likes of Barack Obama.

"While nothing beats good old fashioned door knocking the SDLP will be using all means available to connect with voters.

"The SDLP has a firm message for the people of Northern Ireland in this election and it is simple. We can win a seat and we will win it for you and your needs.

"The North needs a positive voice in Europe and only the SDLP can provide it.

"Over the past few months I have travelled throughout the North and I have heard people express the hopes they have for themselves, their families and this country.

"I have visited outstanding businesses that deserve innovative and responsive leadership both here and in Europe to help them through these difficult times.

"I've met farmers who need certainty for the future and fishermen struggling to make ends meet.

"Northern Ireland needs to be at the heart of Europe again.

"Only with the SDLP can restore your voice in Europe and your faith in government because the North has lost out in Europe without the SDLP.

"It's time for us all to win again."
