Maginness Issues Reminder To Register Vote
Friday 27 March 2009
SDLP European Election Candidate Alban Maginness has called for a
massive turn out in North Antrim for the forthcoming poll on June 4.
Speaking on a visit to Ballymena, Mr Maginness issued a reminder that people have only two weeks to register to vote.
He said: "I would implore everyone to check with the Electoral Office or at the constituency office of Declan O'Loan to ensure you are registered to vote in the European election.
"The deadline of 7 April is looming and people must remember that they have the necessary documentation to ensure that they are entitled to vote.
"Once again this is an election where every single vote will count and without using it we cannot bring about change.
"For the SDLP is the strongest party for Europe in the North and strongest party for the North in Europe.
"With Europe so relevant to the things that affect our lives, North Antrim need an MEP who will be relevant and effective in Europe again.
"Only the SDLP will be offering the people of North Antrim a credible, positively pro-European choice in this election.
"We are fighting this election as part of a movement that does not just cross one border in one region of Europe, but spans the entire European Union.
"I am fighting not only for you and the SDLP but as part of the Party of European Socialists.
"This group offers voters right across Europe a platform for decisive intervention, concerted investment, radical action and international financial regulation.
"Everyone in this region recognises that European responses and international measures are needed, if we are to have financial stability and economic growth for the future.
"The SDLP is the only party which can offer this manifesto."
