Maginness: Europe can help bring peace to our communities

SDLP European Candidate Alban Maginness MLA joined with hundreds at a rally in Belfast city centre today to show support for the family of murdered community worker Kevin McDaid.

Speaking at the rally Mr Maginness said: "After the heinous murder of Kevin McDaid the importance of bringing peace to our communities has become even more significant.

"We must to look at Europe as a model to do this as it was born out of reconciliation.

"Former SDLP Leader and MEP John Hume was integral in creating the Peace I and Peace II projects to provide financial help to communities damaged as a result of conflict.

"If elected as an MEP I will aim to emulate the good work of John Hume and make headway with the Peace III project to bring much needed funding to the many communities seeking to overcome division in Northern Ireland."
