YOUR NEEDS WILL BE MY PRIORITY

Over the last few months, I have travelled throughout the North. I have listened to people voicing their concerns and their fears. But I have also heard them expressing their hopes for themselves, their families, their communities and this country. Everywhere I go people are telling me they want positive representation and strong leadership in Europe. That is what I am determined to give.

The peaceful and progressive leadership of John Hume inspired me to get involved in politics. As a proud Irishman and European, I believe passionately in the SDLP vision of a reconciled people living in a united, just and prosperous new Ireland. I want to help build a dynamic, inclusive and outward-looking Ireland that will play a leading role in Europe.

But I am not just a politician. I am also a husband and a father. I want the same things for my children as all parents want for theirs:
- The best education so they get the start in life they deserve;
- A strong economy so they can get good jobs;
- Excellence in healthcare so they can live healthy, happy lives;
- A clean, green environment so their children will have a future too.

I am standing in this election because I want to make a real difference. While there are significant challenges ahead for us all, great opportunities exist as well. Northern Ireland needs to be at the heart of Europe again. Only the SDLP can put us there.

I give you my word: I will work tirelessly for you in Europe. Your needs will always be my priority. A better future for us all will be my goal. I hope I will be worthy of your support on Thursday 4 June.
